Start with your reason for switching
A MyFitnessPal alternative should solve the part of logging you find difficult. Is it entering a mixed meal, checking portions, understanding the breakdown or deciding which features justify a subscription? Write down that requirement before comparing feature lists.
Heyberry offers photo and text meal estimates, barcode scanning and recipe search by name or link. It presents individual foods and estimated grams for review. This comparison is written by the Heyberry team, not an independent reviewer. We have not completed a controlled accuracy or speed comparison with MyFitnessPal.
MyFitnessPal also offers camera and recipe features
MyFitnessPal's official Premium feature list includes Barcode Scanner and Meal Scan. Its website recipe importer supports recipe links and manually entered ingredient lists. A camera or recipe feature alone is not a unique reason to switch to Heyberry.
Compare how the workflow feels with food you eat regularly. Use a packaged product, a visible plate and a homemade dish. Check whether the returned product or recipe matches what you used and whether you can correct the amounts easily.
What Heyberry's review step looks like
After adding a meal, review identified foods, grams, calories and macros. Change an individual portion or use Fix with a note to explain an ingredient or preparation detail. Check the updated breakdown before saving it.
This can fit a routine built around meal photos and editable estimates. It does not establish that Heyberry is more accurate or faster than MyFitnessPal. Heyberry has no published independent accuracy benchmark. Our photo calorie counter page explains the workflow and limitations.
Compare paid features honestly
Heyberry is free to download and set up, but meal logging requires Pro. US plans are $29.99 yearly with a 3-day free trial for eligible new subscribers, or $9.99 monthly. Compare the offer shown on your purchase screen with the MyFitnessPal plan you actually use.
If your main requirement is unlimited free barcode logging or a tracker without a subscription, Heyberry Pro does not satisfy that requirement. If you only need a paper record, our free food diary template is available without an account.
History, subscriptions and connected apps
Installing Heyberry does not cancel your MyFitnessPal subscription. Manage renewal through the provider where you purchased it. Keep older records using the options available in your existing app before changing your logging routine.
Heyberry does not promise a MyFitnessPal history importer. Its current Apple Health integration reads permitted steps, active energy and body mass; it does not write dietary calories or macros. If food export to Health matters to you, check the Apple Health guide before switching.
Make the decision with one ordinary meal
Choose a meal whose ingredients and amounts you can verify. Review the results, corrections and purchase terms. If Heyberry fits your routine, keep the next day's log there. If you also want to compare Cal AI, read Cal AI versus MyFitnessPal for the same decision checklist.
