Looking for a Cal AI alternative? Heyberry offers photo calorie estimates with individual foods and portions you can review and correct.

What to look for in a Cal AI alternative

People choose a calorie tracker for different reasons: logging speed, understandable estimates, recipe support, price or a routine that feels easier to keep. Start with the reason you want to change apps. A long feature list does not tell you whether a tracker handles your usual meals well.

Heyberry is one option for photo-based calorie and macro logging. This page explains what it does and the limits of this comparison. It is written by the Heyberry team, not an independent reviewer. We have not run a controlled accuracy comparison with Cal AI.

Both apps offer more than meal photos

Cal AI's official website describes photo, barcode and meal-description logging. Those methods are not exclusive to Heyberry. A switch should be based on the actual experience and the terms shown to you, rather than treating shared features as a unique advantage.

Heyberry supports meal photos, typed descriptions, barcode scanning and recipe search by name or link. It shows the identified foods and their estimated grams, calories and macros. You can change the grams of an individual item, answer portion questions, or use Fix with a note to explain what needs correcting.

For a meal you cooked yourself, a known recipe can be more useful than a photo. For a packaged snack, a barcode record and the label can help. Our barcode versus photo guide explains when to choose each method.

Review the result before deciding

Try the same kind of food you eat regularly. A simple plate with separate foods is one test; a mixed dish with sauce is another. Compare identified ingredients and portion amounts with information you know. A plausible total is not enough if the ingredients are wrong.

Heyberry estimates calories from information about the meal. It has no published independent accuracy benchmark, and we do not promise that it is more accurate than Cal AI. Read how accurate AI calorie counters are for the differences between recognizing food and estimating its amount.

Correcting a result is part of the workflow. When you change grams or add a note, check the updated breakdown. Reanalysis does not turn an unknown recipe into a measured one.

What Heyberry costs

Heyberry is free to download and setting up a plan is free. You need Heyberry Pro to log meals. US pricing is $29.99 a year with a 3-day free trial for eligible new subscribers, or $9.99 a month. The purchase screen shows the applicable price, renewal terms and trial eligibility before you subscribe.

This is a paid alternative, not a claim of unlimited free photo logging. We do not quote Cal AI's price here because offers can differ by store, region and promotion. Compare the purchase screens that apply to you, including what happens after any trial.

You can start Heyberry as a guest without an account. Save your progress with your email if you want to keep your plan and meals when changing phones. Heyberry does not show ads in the app. Its Privacy Policy explains how meal data is processed.

Check your existing subscription before switching

Installing another app does not cancel a subscription to your current tracker. Use the original purchase provider's subscription settings and check the renewal date. Cal AI's official FAQ directs App Store and Google Play subscribers to their store settings.

Do not assume another app will import your history. This page does not promise a Cal AI data importer or automatic subscription transfer. Decide how you want to keep older records before changing your routine.
